9/28-10/2: “If you could give advice to your freshman self (or a current freshman), what would you say?”
Freshmen, take notes.
I’m sure we all have looked back on events in our life--big or small, totally random or a huge deal, last week or three years ago--and totally face palm ourselves…why did we do that? Or, in this case, why didn’t we do that? This week, six Spartans provide advice that they would want to tell their past selves, or something they want current freshmen to know.

1. “Don’t be afraid of the upperclassmen. They’re all hooligans.” –James Lynch, Sophomore
2. “First, learn to walk in the hallway. Stay to the right and DO NOT stop. Second, if you’re late, you may as well go buy yourself a Snapple or something. You’re gonna be late either way.” –Jessica Kujalowicz, Junior
3. “I would tell myself to not be afraid to talk to everyone. I was kind of the underdog living in my older brother’s shadow. I was like, “please don’t compare me to him!” I would definitely not have been as restricted if I could go back.” –Ms.Mauriello, Teacher of English
4. “Try to find a good balance between work and fun.” –Sean Schoch, Senior
5. “Everyone is so welcoming, so don’t be nervous! The school seems big – it is a lot bigger than the middle school, but you’ll adjust in no time.” –Rachael Schmidt, Junior
6. “Don’t be afraid to join clubs. I was nervous I would not have enough time to study for my academics, but really, joining various clubs is the best thing to do so take advantage of the opportunity.” –Lauren Krause, Junior
This isn’t just great advice for freshmen, but for everyone. A huge thank you to these students, who were the first responders to the new column, Question of the Week (QOTW). Stay tuned and subscribe to our newsfeed for more QOTWs, the debut of “Humans of SHS,” and other amazing articles.
