Shrek the Musical Ready for March

As March quickly approaches, so does Sparta High School’s spring musical: Shrek The Musical. The cast and crew of Shrek have been preparing since December of last year and now, with less than two weeks until opening night, the show has come together perfectly and soon will be ready for a live production.

The director of Shrek is Angela DeLuccia, a teacher of English and the Librarian and Media Specialist at Sparta High School. This is DeLuccia’s 15th show at Sparta and has high hopes for this production: “I am so excited for this production; the humor, talent, and energy are abounding.”

Paige Lucas is the assistant-director and choreographer of Shrek. Ms. Lucas is an Instructional Aide at Sparta High School and graduated from SHS in 2001. She participated in four musicals during her high school career and was the lead in three productions. Ms. Lucas’s favorite part of the spring production is how “the show is fun for all ages; the whole community gets involved.”

The musical director of Shrek is Andrew Lopez, a teacher of music and a band director at Sparta High School. Mr. Lopez remarked that, “the music is so fun, it’s as good as any broadway show.” Mr. Lopez also finds the story of Shrek moving: “The moral of the story speaks to me; it’s what’s inside that counts.”

Laura Lopez is the vocal coordinator and accompanimist for Shrek. Mrs. Lopez is a teacher of music and choir director at Sparta High. Mrs. Lopez loves working with the cast: “I would have to say my favorite thing has been working with so many incredible singers. Everyone is very strong, and anyone who goes to see it is going to be amazed by the talent.”

The part of Fiona will be played by Carly Marquez. Carly’s favorite aspect of the production is: “The message of acceptance and self-celebration has bonded the cast incredibly.” Carly is joined by Tiernan Doyle as Shrek, Blaze Dalio as Donkey, Taina Brantley as Dragon, and Jack McDonough as Lord Farquaad.

Shrek also has a number of junior cast members comprised of the children of staff and faculty members, including Olivia Sanders, Katie Sanders, Quinn Stoner, Joelyn Stoner, and Jacquelin Schels. Playing the role of young Fiona is Kaela Burke, a student at Sparta Middle School.

Shrek the musical will be performed at the Sparta High School auditorium for three nights: March 10, 11, and 12, at 7:00 P.M. Tickets cost $10 and can be pre-ordered or bought at the door. This is truly an SHS production you don't want to miss with great performances by students and comedy the whole family can enjoy. Pre-order your tickets today!
